EMCS Academy has designed the Award in Leading a Family Business to empower participants with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competences to effectively lead a family business using a strategic mindset. With a focus on establishing professional structures and embracing a data-driven approach, this course ensures informed decision-making, based on solid evidence.
Participants will learn to structure a family business in a way that suits its unique dynamics and needs. Additionally, participants will gain insights into establishing an effective governance system that ensures smooth operations and decision-making within the family business. With a focus on data analysis, attendees will develop the ability to evaluate and interpret key performance indicators to drive informed business decisions. The course also delves into strategic planning, equipping participants with the tools and knowledge to develop and update comprehensive strategies for their family business. Lastly, participants will explore succession planning, understanding the importance of preparing for the future and ensuring a seamless transition within the family business.

The course will be delivered using a blend of approaches to ensure a unique learning and development model that enables the learner to learn the general framework of the subject and then apply what is learnt to real life cases.
Following each module, trainees will be able to avail of 3 hours of one to one coaching.
Assessment
Trainees will be required to submit a written assessment at the end of each section/module.
This will assess what the trainee has learnt and most of all, if they are able to apply what they have learned to the real-life situation, found in their family business.
The qualification awarded will provide evidence that the learner has obtained the knowledge and competencies as described in the course description and to the level awarded (EQF level).
Where possible and applicable, if revision of paper is requested then the assessment will be reviewed by a supplementary marker. Assessments will be carried out consistently and fairly applied to all students and carried out in accordance with the above procedure.
If a student does not obtain a pass mark, the student will be given the opportunity to sit for a resit. The resit will be corrected by a supplementary marker.
A student must obtain a pass mark in all 3 components to be awarded the certification.
This course will run between November 2023 and April 2024.
This course is made up of a total of 36 contact hours, which comprise lectures, tutorials and one to one coaching.
The course will be delivered in English.
