EMCS Advisory Ltd has been contracted by the Ministry for Health to deliver training as part of the project – ESF 02.052- Non-technical skills training for healthcare personnel, which is part financed through the European Social Funds. The main objectives of this project are

– to strengthen healthcare staff team dynamics, and
– to improve interpersonal relationships between healthcare professionals, the patients, and their relatives.

The training shall contribute towards enhancing productivity and performance of healthcare personnel and ultimately result in a better healthcare environment for all concerned and improved patient satisfaction with the services provided. It will thus serve as a catalyst for all concerned in striving to achieve excellence in our National Healthcare System.

Accreditation and MQF/EQF Level
A CPD Award accredited with 10 SCQF Credits at SCQF Level 8 (EQF Level 5MQF/EQF Level 5) by the Scottish Credits and Qualifications framework, as equivalent to 5 ECTS Credits awarded by the Malta Further & Higher Education Authority (MFHEA). The Managing People Professionally, certificate of achievement will be awarded to delegates who successfully attend a minimum of 8 modules and obtain a minimum pass in the relative assessment.

Learning Outcomes

Healthcare professionals offer a service to their patients, but unlike other service providers, its clients are people in special circumstances being devoid of their normal state of health. Delivery of excellent patient care and customer satisfaction are the result of the effort of various Healthcare providers, clinicians, nurses, midwives, allied Healthcare professionals and support employees who, as a team, contribute towards this goal.

The aim of this project is to provide constant and consistent training in non-technical skills dealing with both the social dimension and the cognitive element in the healthcare sector to all personnel who are excellent at their technical skills but at the same time may not be so proficient in interacting with patients.

Throughout this training, reference will be made to the application of principles outlined in Directive 4 issued by the Principal Permanent Secretary on 6th April 2017. (Directive no. 4-1 Standards For Service Of Excellence Offered By The Public Administration To The Public And To Public Employees, in terms of the Public Administration and the ten determinants to
achieve service of excellence.)

The delivery of this training will result in an improvement in the internal communication and interaction between the staff working within the various healthcare departments, ultimately striving towards excellence in:

  • patient safety
  • patient care
  • patient/relative satisfaction.

Who is eligible to participate?

Managing People Professionally (34 hours) is offered to all health professionals in all managerial positions.

Learning methodologies include classroom-based learning and seminars as indicated in each programme above. The method of delivery may vary depending on the subject matter. However, a participative approach is undertaken and training delivery is based on an eclectic choice of methods which cater for different learning styles with emphasis on experiential techniques.

Delivery  includes workshop- based programmes, case studies, practical exercises and videos related to a Healthcare set up

A summative assessment procedure will be used and this will be applied at the end of each module when the students would have covered all the material covering all learning outcomes. Trainee will be asked to work on 5 short assessments reflecting the material covered and knowledge gained throughout the course.

Grading: A (80-100%); B (65-79%); C (50 – 64%); F (0-49%)

The course will be delivered over a 34- hour period (part-time).

The course will be delivered in English. Course delivery in Maltese is also an option, if required.
